Author’s Notes: Just a short part about after Sirena has her baby.

Leiko had been half asleep when the phone rang. She thought about ignoring it, maybe she was dreaming. That was until she felt Kalila elbow her in the back.

“Get the phone…” Kalila mumbled.

Leiko groaned and reached for the phone. She picked it up and pulled it back to her ear. “Hello?” she mumbled.

“Leiko? Sorry to call so late, but it’s Sirena. She had the baby!” Damien exclaimed.

This pulled Leiko out of sleep to almost fully awake. “She had the baby?!” Leiko exclaimed.

“Yeah! It’s a girl. It all happened so fast that I didn’t even get a chance to call you, sorry. I just thought you’d like to know, though. We’re not sure what to name her, yet, but she’s such a beautiful little girl!” Damien said.

“I’ll be there. I have to get dressed but I’ll be there in a little while,” Leiko said.

“Oh! Sorry, you don’t have to come! I just wanted to let you know she’d had the baby!” Damien said.

“No, I want to come and see the three of you. I’ll be there in a little while,” Leiko said.

“Okay, if you want to. See you later,” Damien said.

“Bye,” Leiko said and hung up the phone.

“What happened?” Kalila asked, now awake.

“Sirena had the baby. I’m going to the hospital to see them,” Leiko said.

“Aw! I’m going with you!” Kalila said.

They both got up and changed quickly. It didn’t take long for them to get to the car and to the hospital. The trip to the hospital only took about ten minutes, since it was so late at night and traffic was light.

After finding out where Sirena was, Leiko and Kalila took the elevator up to the right floor. It didn’t take them long to find the room. Damien was standing outside, waiting for them.

“I’m glad you made it! I was going to take you to the nursery first. Sirena is resting, so I didn’t want to disturb her,” he said.

“That’s fine,” Leiko said, following Damien as he started down the hallway. They were quiet until they reached the nursery window.

“That’s her, right there. In that third crib. See her?” Damien asked, pointing.

“Aw, she’s so beautiful!” Kalila said.

Leiko didn’t always have opinions on newborn babies. She thought they all looked alike. Nothing special. But she smiled for Damien’s sake.

“She is beautiful,” Leiko agreed.

“I know you don’t like babies that much, Leiko. You can’t fool me,” Damien said, smiling.

“I know. She’s still a pretty baby. She’s your daughter, you probably think she’s the most beautiful in the world,” Leiko said.

“You’re right. I think she is beautiful. She’s my daughter and I couldn’t be any happier,” he said.

Leiko looked at Damien as he looked into the room. She had never seen him look so happy and proud. She put her arm around his shoulders.

“You’re going to make a great father. I really mean that. You and Sirena will be great parents,” she said.

Kalila stepped up next to Leiko and took her head. Leiko looked at her and smiled. Kalila was smiling too, with tears in her eyes. Kalila always seemed to get emotional easily. Leiko was glad she wasn’t like that.

“Thanks, Leiko. A few years ago, I could’ve never guessed I’d be standing here looking at my daughter,” Damien said.

“A few years ago, I wouldn’t have guessed that I would be standing next to you while looking at your daughter,” Leiko said.

“And I’m so proud of Sirena for going through with this. Before we got married, even before we got engaged, she said she was nervous about ever having kids. She thought that maybe she didn’t want to. I went along with it because I loved her. I didn’t care if any kids came along or not. When she told me she was pregnant, I got nervous. I thought maybe I wouldn’t be good enough. As the months went by, I got a bit more calm. I decided that I could do it. Now I’m not so sure again,” Damien said.

“You’re going to be fine. I’ve seen how much you’ve changed. You’re going to be great with this child,” Kalila said.

“Thanks, Kalila. We’ll just have to wait and see, though. We better not tell her about us as children, Leiko,” he said.

Leiko laughed. “Yeah, that’s true. We don’t want to give her any ideas.”

They all stood there for a few more minutes, just looking in at the baby. Leiko still couldn’t believe how far they’d all come. From fighting all the time to standing together, looking at his daughter. She could never understand it, but she was happy.

“Well, I think we should go back and see if Sirena is okay,” Damien said. Leiko and Kalila agreed and they started down the hallway.

They were all quiet again as they walked down the hallway. Damien still had doubts about his abilities as a father. He knew how he used to be. What if somehow that caught up with him? What if someone from his past came in and tried to kill Sirena or his daughter? ‘No!’ he thought to himself. He couldn’t let himself think about those things.

“Hi Leiko!” snapped Damien out of his thoughts as they entered Sirena’s room. He was surprised to see Sirena awake.

“Hey Sirena. How are you?” Leiko asked.

“Tired, but good. I’m guessing you went to see the baby?” she asked.

“Yeah. She’s a beautiful baby,” Leiko said.

“Thanks. I’m proud of her already. We don’t know what to name her, though. If you have any ideas, maybe you could give us a suggestion,” Sirena said.

“What about Hoshi? It means star. I had a cousin by that name. She got killed a few years ago,” Kalila said.

Damien and Sirena looked at each other, thinking for a minute. They weren’t sure, but they knew it was the best option they had so far.

Finally Sirena looked at Leiko and Kalila. “It sounds like a really great name. I think that’ll work,” she said.

Leiko took Kalila’s hand and smiled at her. She was glad that they had come that evening and she was glad that she had been able to see Damien so truly happy.
